Pre-Medical Scholars Summer Program

Next summer (July 2016), ACS will commence the Pre-Medical Scholars Program, a unique summer program designed for motivated, high-achieving, high school students who seek future medical school admissions. Commencing the summer after the student’s sophomore year, this program will help build the intellectual skills and competencies necessary for a successful high school and collegiate focus in pre-medical studies. Students will be privy to specialized lectures introducing a variety of topics: medical ethics; the musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and gastrointestinal systems; emerging medical technologies; communicable and infectious diseases; and pharmacology. Because pre-medical awareness for most high school students is limited, this program will offer labs and seminars to engage students in practical applications of their pre-medical preparation. Students will also be provided with assistance in developing their future medical school resumes and essays, specifically in topics required by the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) and supplemental applications.

Program Goals:

By the end of this program, students will have:

  • Built a foundation for applying to college honors programs in medical education or elite college programs
  • Developed the stronger reading, learning, and test-taking skills required for future medical studies
  • Developed a mature rationale for pursuing a medical education

Program Schedule:

A typical day* of the program would resemble:

Lecture 9:00 – 10:30am

Lab 10:30 – 11:30am

Lunch Seminar 11:45 – 12:45pm

College Prep 1:00 – 4:00pm
